Larisse Campbell is a bi-national, Canadian/American director and dramaturge. Her work has been seen across North America.
As a text-based director, Larisse has directed contemporary and adapted texts, musicals, theatre for young audiences and heightened language, classics. With a strong foundation in dramaturgy and new works, she values exploring absurdist dark comedies, coming of age stories and the celebration of the female experience, immersive and site-specific projects, and depictions of sports/sports culture in live performance. She also really loves a play within a play. In her work, she prioritizes innovative visual storytelling, nuanced performances and a healthy disregard for the rules. As a neurodivergent artist, she is keen to investigate and build inclusive ways to invite new audiences in. She holds an MFA with Honours in Directing from the University of British Columbia, where she was awarded the Dorothy Somerset Directing Award in 2024, and the Sydney J. Risk Award for Directing in 2024 and 2025. She also has a Bachelor of Secondary Education in Drama from the University of Alberta. She is a member of both the Kennedy Centre Directing Lab from 2021-2023 and Directors Lab North in 2020 and 2023. She currently teaches directing at The Arts Club Theatre through their education initiatives and holds a teaching certificate from the British Columbia Teachers Association. In 2018, she established The Ordinary Productions, a multi media performance collective which explored ambitious and unconventional new texts through the mediums of theatre, film, and podcasts. |
